About 2 months ago, on August 27, a heavy storm hit the Phnom Penh region in Cambodia, causing structural damage at the Children’s Relief Center - in particular, the school house roof (pictured here), the parking hut (pictured below), and the stable for the chicken, geese, oxen, and cows. Fortunately, no one was injured in the storm.

Carolina Hope has a long-standing relationship with the Children’s Relief Center (CRC). The orphanage director assists Carolina Hope families who adopt from Cambodia, and Cambodian orphans placed by Carolina Hope often come from the CRC. (Note that U.S. citizens cannot presently adopt from Cambodia, though residents of certain other countries may. For more information, visit our Cambodia adoption page.) Both Laura Godwin (Carolina Hope’s director) and I (Josh Jensen) have visited the orphanage during trips to Cambodia.

About $1000 of the $2000 needed for repairs has already been raised from adoptive families. Another $2000 is needed for fill-dirt and a concrete road. (About half of the year in Cambodia is rainy season. Dirt roads become almost impassable. Take it from someone who has experienced it first-hand!)
