Staff introductions: Laura Beauvais-Godwin

As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary as an adoption agency, I want to give you some brief introductions to the Carolina Hope staff. I’ll begin with our director, who is also the founder of the agency, Laura Beauvais-Godwin.

Laura’s involvement with adoption began at least as far back as her first adoption, about 20 years ago. Eventually she and her husband, Ray Godwin, became very involved in adoptions professionally, Ray focusing his law practice on adoption, and the two of them writing The Complete Adoption Book together (now in its third edition). After working for state social services and then for an international adoption agency, Laura decided to begin her own international adoption agency, Carolina Hope. (Laura is pictured here with children adopted through Carolina Hope’s Ukraine program, the first country that Carolina Hope did international adoptions from.)

Everyone who works with Laura can testify to her love for children in need, for families, and for adoption. Laura has often been involved with advocacy efforts for adoptions in South Carolina, and she is the current president of the South Carolina Association of Licensed Adoption Agencies (SCALAA). Laura is passionate about adoption education — helping families prepare for adoption so that they can confidently and successfully navigate its trials and joys.

In 2005 Laura was honored by the South Carolina legislature with the Woman in Achievement award for Greenville, South Carolina.
