Staff introductions: Lisa Prather
As we celebrate our adoption agency’s 10th Anniversary, I’m posting brief introductions of the Carolina Hope staff. Last Friday I told you a little about our Director, Laura Godwin. Today I’d like you to meet our Assistant Director (and Director of International and Domestic Adoption Programs), Lisa Prather. I’ve asked her a few questions, and here are her answers.
JJ: What first got you interested in adoptions?
LP: I’ve always been interested in adoption. I used to tell all of my friends that when I grew up, I was going to adopt 10 children! Then I wanted to work with needy children and I was led into foster care work. Last year God started reminding me that I love the idea of adoption and how important that work is. I am adopted by my step father, and I feel I have a unique understanding that adoption is one way God creates families, and it does not mean you love the person more or less than if they are your birth family. When I was growing up, so many people were curious about adoption love. Now I feel that I am not only able to talk to people about adoption, but I’m actually putting families together and helping orphans. This is God’s ultimate plan.
JJ: What would you describe as the motivating force behind your work?
LP: God’s calling on my life to help the fatherless, as I was given both an earthly adoptive father and a heavenly adoptive father. How can I not give back to others or have a desire for orphans to be adopted. It seems so simple, and I absolutely love it!
