Open Adoption online education course, June 23

In two weeks on Monday, June 23, at 7 pm, Carolina Hope is offering a live online adoption education course about openness in adoption. Here’s the write-up from the course page:

We often hear that families who are considering a domestic adoption are afraid of an “open” adoption. In this 1-and-a-half-hour course, you will learn what an open adoption is, the possible benefits of openness, and when communication with birthparents is appropriate. By increasing your awareness of what openness is — and by being “open” to openness — you will probably increase the likelihood of having a successful adoption — and parenting — experience.

This webinar is presented by Laura Beauvais-Godwin, Carolina Hope’s director and co-author of The Complete Adoption Book. Laura is the adoptive mother of two daughters.

Participating in the course requires an internet connection and phone connection. The cost is $15. More information is available at the course page.

I just found your website and was scrolling down the page when I read this article regarding the course you offered on open adoption. I have 3 children that we adopted domestically and we have an open adoption with all three children’s family. Our stories might be more of an openness than most have. We are blessed beyond measure at their continued love for us and our children. I have always had the thought that if God has made these children for us, than nothing will thwart His plan. So we (my husband and I) have never been afraid of them changing their mind. I must admit there have been times that we have had to sit and talk with some of the family members regarding the differences of standards between our family and theirs. But they have always been gracious to understand our values and the way we are raising the kids. My daughters birth grandparents are the dream grandparents! I cannot say enough good things about them. They have always loved all three of my kids as their own, no partiality. They are precious people. And we have a some of our birth families that once they get married and start their own family, their visits and letters come far less often.
We are blessed! I love how adoption paints a beautiful picture of the Gospel.
