Welcome Home Breiden
On October 23, Justin and Darcey, along with their son, Dex, traveled down to Greenville, SC, to welcome their new daughter, Breiden, into the family. They created a short video of the experience (about 2 minutes long), which they’ve shared with Carolina Hope.
The adoptive family is working with private adoption attorney Ray Godwin, and Carolina Hope assisted Breiden’s birth mother, whom we’ll call Claire. Carolina Hope’s assistant director, Lisa, was present at the hospital with Claire and the family. Here’s her account:
Claire is extremely proud of the decision she made for her daughter. In the past she has struggled with a drug addiction, and she has worked hard to leave behind her old lifestyle.
Claire wanted to get a photo of herself with the entire adoptive family, but the hospital wouldn’t allow everyone into the nursery at one time. Justin, the adoptive dad said, “Don’t worry. We’ll pick you up for dinner later this week and take pictures then.” Claire said she would love that, but she seemed surprised by the offer. Justin said, “That’s what an open adoption is.”
Claire immediately started crying and said she felt like she was part of their family too. Everyone was hugging and crying, including the hospital social worker, the nurse, and myself.
