Domesticating Your Child’s International Adoption in South Carolina

For a child who was not been seen by both of his parents before the adoption, either a domestication of his adoption or a readoption is an essential step for him to become a U.S. citizen. You will want to complete this process as soon after your international adoption as possible.
Although we strongly encourage adoptive parents of internationally adopted children to readopt their children instead of domesticating the adoption, we also understand that parents may have extended themselves financially after completing an international adoption and are not able to incur any more expenses. Domesticating an adoption soon after your child is home means your child will quickly have a certificate of foreign birth from Vital Records.
In this 1-and-a-half-hour course, we will guide you step-by-step through the process of domesticating your child’s adoption in your county in South Carolina — and there’s no need for the assistance of a lawyer. (The information presented in this course has been reviewed by an attorney.) This webinar is presented by Laura Beauvais-Godwin, Carolina Hope’s director and co-author of The Complete Adoption Book.
Please register for this course at least 3 days ahead of time so that forms can be emailed to you and we can contact the family courthouse in your county to determine the court’s specific procedures to share with you.

How to sign up
To sign up for this webinar, first click on the Pay Now link below. Once you have paid, you will be taken to a PayPal page that says “Thank you for your payment.” On that page, click on the orange button that says “Return to Carolina Hope Christian Adoption Agency.” That link will return you to this page.
Next, send an email to webinars@CarolinaHopeAdoption.org with the following subject line: “Sign up for adoption domestication webinar”. Please include your name in the body of your email, along with your city and county of residence in South Carolina.
After we have confirmed your payment, you will receive an email response with the information needed to join the webinar. (This email is different from the payment receipt you will receive by email from PayPal, which is for your financial records. The email with webinar information will come from an @ CarolinaHopeAdoption.org address.) Participation in the webinar requires a telephone and an internet connection.
Please note that the sign-up emails are handled personally by Carolina Hope staff. Therefore there will be a delay from the time you send your email until the time you receive a response. You should receive the email with necessary information at least one hour before the webinar is scheduled to begin.
